What drew you to the project?

I love Sarah's writing. In fact, the very first book I narrated for Audible was one of Sarah's books called Silent Child. And that was um my first experience and I absolutely loved narrating that book. I really enjoy Sarah's writing. She writes thrillers so brilliantly. They're so juicy. Anytime there's a chance to narrate any of her work, I'm straight in there.

How do you get ready to record audio? Do you have any vocal warm-ups that you can show us?
准备录音前你会做什么？能否分享一些发声热身技巧？
I don't do vocal warm-ups for audio because it's such a intimate space to record in. I only do would do vocal warm-ups if I'm doing theater because you're having to project your voice into a much bigger space. A really good trick is eating an apple because it stops if you have like a little bit of a dry mouth or if you're starting first thing in the morning, it stops any sort of noise from your mouth. So, eating a green apple, any apple will do, but green one's better. And if you get a rumbly tummy, then a banana.
我录制音频时不做发声热身，因为录音空间太小了。只有在演戏时我才会做发声热身，因为得把声音传到更大的空间里。有个特别好的小窍门，就是吃个苹果，因为当口腔出现轻微干燥或清晨刚起床时，苹果能有效抑制口腔内的噪音。所以吃苹果是个很好的办法，任何颜色的苹果都可以，但青苹果效果更佳。要是肚子咕咕叫，那就吃根香蕉。
Who would you most like to read you a bedtime story?

I would most like Jim Carter to read me a bedtime story. He plays Mr. Carson in Downtown amongst many of the roles in his very varied and illustrious career. But Jim and I obviously work together on Downtown Abbey and Jim has the most amazing speaking voice. He's just like it's sort of quite commanding but it's got this softness to it as well. And um yeah, he he just has the perfect voice for a bedtime story for sure.

If you could wake up anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would it be?

It would be with my family in the Maldives. I've never been to the Maldives, but it's on my bucket list of places to go. I really want to go to the Maldives, cos obviously it's just natural beauty and I love diving. So I really want to go scuba diving every day and just lay on a beach. I mean, it's just like heaven, isn't it? So, yeah, that would be my wish.

What's your most useless skill?

My most useless skill is actually not useless. It's actually really useful. So, I'm really good at finding things for other people, not for myself particularly, but yeah, I'm good at finding lost lost objects. 
我最无用的技能并非一无是处，反而相当实用。我特别擅长帮别人找东西——虽然不太擅长找自己的东西——但确实很擅长寻回遗失物品。
Anyone can call me go, "Oh, I've lost this." And I'll literally be on the phone and I'll just kind of say, "Have you tried that? Have you tried that? Where did where did you do this? Where did you do that? Okay, look under there." and then they're like, "Oh my goodness, it's there."
只要有人喊我：“噢，我找不到我的东西了！”我就能立刻在电话里引导：“这里你找过了吗？那里你找过了吗？你上次是放在这儿吗？还是放在那儿？好，现在找找下面看。”结果对方就会惊呼：“天哪，它就在这儿！”
Would you rather talk to animals or read people's minds?
你更愿意与动物交流还是读懂人心？
I would definitely rather talk to animals than read people's minds. I don't want to know what everyone's thinking. I can't think of anything worse than knowing the inner workings of everyone's brain. I'd much prefer to talk to animals.
我绝对更想和动物对话。我可不想知道每个人在想什么，没有什么比窥探别人大脑更糟糕的事了。和动物交流才更合我心意。
Any particular animal?
有特别想对话的动物吗？
Um, my dog. I'd really like my dog to be able to talk to me and tell me what she's thinking. Sometimes I kind of look at her and go, I wish you could just tell me. I mean, they do in their own way, but it'd be cute if she could talk to me. Yeah.
嗯，我的狗。真希望我的狗能和我说话，告诉我她在想什么。有时看着她，我就想：要是你能直接告诉我该多好。当然，它们自有表达方式，但要是她能开口说话就太可爱了。
What's something that cheers you up no matter what?
有什么事情能让你无论何时都感到开心吗？
Something that cheers me up no matter what is hearing babies laugh. If I can't be around a very happy baby and I need cheering up, then I would say um spending time with friends. Yeah. 
无论发生什么，听到宝宝的笑声都能让我开心。如果身边没有可爱开心的宝宝，而我又需要提振心情，那我会选择和朋友们共度时光。
