歌曲故事背景梗概：

这首歌是《歌剧魅影》 Phantom of the opera里面一个经典的唱段 ，是“魅影”第一次带着女主角Christine，去到他的地下王宫后，对着Christine所唱出的一段。

魅影，Phantom，自称是是剧院的鬼魂，他是一个亦正亦邪的男人，一个变态的音乐天才。长相丑陋，所以带着面具，在黑暗里神出鬼没，无所不能。女主角Christine 7岁成了孤儿，住到剧院开始，魅影就发现了她，在黑暗中教她唱歌，把她的天赋发挥到极致。而Christine也一直愿意相信，魅影就是她父亲临终前，和她说的：我死后，会有一位音乐天使来到你身边，替我照顾你。

这两个人的感情，就在黑暗中，依赖着成长。Christine因为7岁就失去父亲，所以她对魅影的感情，有一种小姑娘不愿长大，不敢长大的恋父情结在里面。而魅影，因为容貌瘆人，即使有绝世的才华，也从未得到人间温暖，常年在黑暗中游走。所以当他有了钟爱的人，那是他对世间唯一的温存。大家可以想象，他对这个人的占有欲和支配欲，会有多么强烈。
