这首歌来自于一部同名百老汇音乐剧。这部剧设定在20年代的法国南部，大家知道1920年代在英文中有一个名称叫the Roaring Twenties, 是一个经济很繁荣，整个社会都比较浮华的时代，到处都是舞会、party，像Fitzgerald的了不起的盖茨比就是描述的这个年代。

法国南部的一直都是度假胜地，几个有钱的女孩子在这里度假，发生了一些爱情故事。之所以叫the boyfriend就是这部剧的剧情表现出女孩子们到了17、8岁，20岁左右的时候就开始想要恋爱了，而且会觉得大家都在交男朋友，自己没有男朋友很失落。

今天我们听到的这首歌就是音乐剧的第一幕的开场歌曲，是非常欢快，非常热闹的一首歌曲，里面的歌词也很有意思。
