Mr. Lordi was born and grew up in the northern Finnish city of Rovaniemi. However, he founded the band when he was studying in Tornio. The band was originally a side project of Mr. Lordi. The band recorded an album in 1999 called Bend over and Pray the Lord that wasn't officially released until 2012 as part of the Scarchives Vol. 1 compilation. LORDI is a Finnish hard rock and melodic heavy metal band, originally formed in 1992 by the band's lead singer, songwriter, visual art designer and costume maker, Mr Lordi. The band has been touring actively since 2002 and it´s known for the monstrous look and the horror elements in the stage performance and music videos. With catchy songs and screaming riffs, the horrific lyrics will stick in your mind whether you like it or not. On 26th of November 2021 the band is releasing "Lordiversity" - a boxset containing SEVEN new studio albums, which will mark the first new music from LORDI since the arrival of 2020's "Killection", a fictional compilation album which contained songs that LORDI would have written had the band existed between the early 1970s and the mid-1990s. The albums will sound all different from each other, they're all in different styles and fictional eras in the Killection timeline. 2006年5月20日，芬兰重金属摇滚乐队洛尔迪在希腊首都雅典举行的2006雅典欧洲电视歌曲大赛上击败所有对手，捧走最高奖项，并为芬兰夺得了 2007年欧洲电视歌曲大赛的主办权。欧洲电视歌曲大赛是欧洲广播电视联盟组织、由主办方国家电视台承办的一项重大艺术类赛事。这项赛事已有51年的历史，并成为全世界收视率最高的文艺类电视节目之一。这个现场是在他们得奖后26号在芬兰本土开的一个现场,当时有8-9万名来自芬兰本地的歌迷到达现场,Lordi演唱了他们至今最为出名的几首歌曲。
经过40年的努力，芬兰终于在比赛中获胜。Lordi乐队以其反传统单曲《重金属哈利路亚》（Hard Rock Hallelujah），震撼并愉悦了观众，赢得了该赛事的历史最好成绩——292分，且高出亚军俄罗斯40分。
芬兰总统Tarja Halonen向粘着魔鬼面具的Lordi乐队发去贺电；芬兰文化部长Tanja Karpela说，Lordi的胜利表明芬兰的音乐在国外也是能够成功的。有官员表示，明年芬兰作为东道主将会上演最好的比赛。芬兰国家广播公司YLE运营总裁Mikael Jungner说道，这件事就好像芬兰中了头彩。

芬兰北部城市罗凡涅米将在2006年6月9日对Lordi乐队进行嘉奖庆典。Lordi主唱Tomi Putaansuu正是罗凡涅米人，他将获得一块私人领地；乐队其他成员则将成为该市的荣誉市民，包括来自万塔市（Vantaa）的鼓手Kita，波尔沃的键盘手Awa，艾斯堡的贝司手Ox 和曼撒拉（Mäntsälä）的吉他手Amen。罗凡涅米中心的Sampo广场也将正式更名为Lordi广场。庆典连接着当日晚间的音乐会，这也是乐队环球之旅的开球仪式。此外，罗凡涅米市还向芬兰国家广播公司YLE表示，该市已为主办2007年欧洲电视网歌曲大赛做好准备。
