Combining astral sound beds with earnest romantic confessionals, Mariah the Scientist makes love songs that are as yearning as they are futuristic. Born Mariah Buckles, the Atlanta native began singing as a member of her elementary school choir. After dropping out of St. John's University to pursue a music career, she garnered attention in 2018 with To Die For, a six-song EP that caught the ear of Tory Lanez. In 2019, she crystallized her status as an emerging voice with her major-label debut, Master. Checking in at 10 tracks, the project is coated in hazy production, dazed vocals, and visceral longing, a stylistic constellation found across her discography. While collaborating alongside rap luminaries like Young Thug and Lil Baby, she only refined her technique with RY RY WORLD (2021) and To Be Eaten Alive (2023), releases that affirmed her as one of R&B's most engrossing creators.
