To read more naturally, we need to pay attention to the sense groups in a sentence, which means we can divide a sentence into a few parts, each part can be read just like “one word”. Take the next sentence for example: I used to visit that library very frequently when I finished my school on Friday afternoons.“I used to visit that library” is one part, then: I used to visit that library, very frequently, when I finished my school, on Friday afternoons. So when a sentence is long, we can take a few breaks, take natural breaths. Let’s read the following at a natural speed:
People have been coming to the wise man, every time complaining about the same problems. One day he told them a joke and everyone roared in laughter. After a couple of minutes he told them the same joke and only a few of them smiled. When he told the same joke for the third time no one laughed anymore. The wise man smiled and said:– You can’t laugh at the same joke over and over. So why are you always crying about the same problem?
It goes like this if we slow down at a pace:
