Hey guys I’m Frank X with Real story. The movement of Me Too has been going on for one and a half years. It spreads all over the world. It makes women realize when facing sexual abuse, harassment and under-table rules, they will no longer choose to be quiet, and they want to stand up for their own rights. In American gymnastics there’s a man called Larry Nassar who abused 265 girls when they were young athletes, for 20 years he did this without being reported. This is the worst sexual abuse case in American sports history.
Larry was the former team doctor of the US. National gymnastics. He followed the team wherever they went, taking care of the injured gymnasts and treated them.Like the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, 2000 Sydney Olympics, 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2012 London Olympics and 2016 Rio Olympics. He was there with the team all the time.He did it at treating rooms, camp dorms, the Olympic village and even his home basement.
Gymnastics has always been popular at Olympics. This Olympic event has been watched by millions of TV viewers all over the world. The moment they land firmly and beautifully on the floor after dangerous flying moves, the audience will give them lasting cheers. Behind the short moment of their amazing moves was years and years of hard work and pain, most probably followed by injures. But it seems it’s inevitable. These girls were sent to the training when they were as young as 6 or 7. Their parents expect them to shine before millions of people. If it’s not for a deep love of the sport, the parents will never send their kids to dangerous and boring classes like this. And they also know not every one of them will be successful even though they take the pains in doing the sport. What’s worse, the injuries cannot be avoided, so they need a good doctor to help and treat them. Larry was the doctor and the good guy for them. The parents, girls and his colleagues trusted him. Everybody knew there was a good guy called Larry in the team. So the little girls were told they didn’t have to worry about the injuries and pains because their good guy Larry was there for them.No need to worry.Larry was always smiling, selfless and helpful, just like a daddy, a family member. He would listen to the young girls, release their anxiety and pain. In his treatment videos on Youtube, he reached everywhere of the girls’ body, explaining how necessary it was to do it, calling it the proper treatment. The girls were too young to doubt Larry, their good guy, even though he did something they felt sick sometimes.Larry even took them to his home basement.So when Larry’s case went public, the parents couldn’t believe it. One of the parents is Ted.(audio)………..

Larry Nassar abused more than 100 women and girls for more than 20 years. How could he get away? You might think you know the story, but he got away not because of poor police work, but people let him. What did it take for the girls to be believed? Let’s start the story with the doctor in his time when everyone thought of him as Larry the good guy. It’s 1996, at the Olympics, American gymnast Carry was about to win the gold medal for her team. The American team never won a gold before 1996, so they need one for the country. Carry was the only one in her team who could win the gold, and on the first try, she landed with her butt right on the floor. That hurts. She tried back one more time, focused, last chance. This time she made the landing beautifully and she got it! She limped back to her teammates. The crowd were cheering crazily for her, but she’s not. At the TV corner a young doctor helped her walk back. That guy was Larry Nassar. We didn’t know then hundreds of women and girls would come to accuse him of sexual assault. But at this moment he was the baby-faced team doctor, the most respected doctor for the national team .Any gymnast got hurt, they would come to see Larry.This is the training video Larry posted online years ago.(Audio)…….This guy looked silly and smiling that kinda guy you wouldn’t doubt.After Larry followed the team in 1996, he became the top doctor of the national team and professor of the MSU. Larry told the girls: everything is second to gymnastics. With this attitude, he won the girls’ trust.(Audio)…….He seemed the guy to protect you, to encourage you. People talked about how they trusted him.The kids wanted to win, which means to sacrifice. They all need Larry, because gymnastics were so important for their lives. When they got hurt, through it all, they gotta came to Larry to treat. He’s like he got magic for the kids. (Audio) …..

On September 20th 2016,two police officers went to Larry’s community with a warrant. It’s a community full of trees, quiet and beautiful. The police officers knocked his door and came in to search. They went to his basement and saw his massage bed, old files, paper work and artwork. The minute they walked out of his house, one officer said, wait, there’s a brown trash bin near his house. It’s their luck that that day the trash truck came late, so Larry’s trash bin was still full.They took the trash bin back to the station and found three hard-drives in the trash. It’s just weird that people threw away their hard-drives. They ran through Larry’s hard drives and they found 30 thousand files full of child porns.
Larry was accused by the police. At this moment, he still got many people’s vote. There were campaigns for him, saying he was misunderstood. Then he was arrested. People still couldn’t believe it. Angela was the lead prosecutor for Larry’s case, and she was not like others who still trusted him.(audio)……….Angela was so passionate about Larry’s case while other prosecutors thought it was too risky. At this point Larry was charged with child porn. But Angela believed there was more about him. She received 125 sexual assault reports about Larry. His lawyer went to Angela for a deal that Larry would admit the abuse. Maybe he wanted to be over with the whole thing, maybe it was for his family, no one knew why. Angela told him Larry would have to admit in court that he did everything to the girls not for his profession, but for his own purpose; What’ more all the girls who reported must make a statement on court against Larry. Finally he agreed. Angela and her team had to make 125 calls for the victims to stand up against Larry in court. On November 22nd 2017,Larry listened to his judge read him his plea deal. He sounded like he sacrificed himself for his community, for the victims to heal.This is not his final sentencing until after Christmas.
Not everyone chose to be quiet about their doubt about Larry. Jordyn Wieber added her name to the list of sexual abuse when she made her first statement about the abuse in court on Friday during Larry’s sentencing hearing. It’s her first time she has spoken publicly about him since the scandal became public in 2016. Wieber is the fourth member of girls who said Larry abused her. Wieber said she began seeing Larry at age of 8, but she got harassed by Larry when she got injuries and went to him for treatment that has resulted in criminal charges against him.She said she discussed the treatment with her teammates, telling them it made her uncomfortable. She said she accepted the need for treatments in order to keep competing.She said Larry was allowed by his team to treat the young girls in hotel rooms and other places, often being alone with the little girls. “I’m angry with myself for not recognizing the abuse, and that’s something I’m struggling with today.”Wieber said. “The people who are responsible need to accept accountability” The Michigan Attorney General’s office has asked for Larry to be sentenced to 40 to 125 years in prison, the high and representing a year for every woman and girl who reported to police that Larry had abused them. Larry Nassar worked for MSU and with USA Gymnastics for decades. On Thursday Assistant Attorney General Angela the lead prosecutor in Larry’s case read a written statement for Maroney. Maroney said when she was 15, Larry gave her a sleeping pill for a flight to Tokyo. When she woke up, she was in Larry’s hotel room, getting a “treatment”.“I had a dream to go to the Olympics, and the things I had to endure to get there were unnecessary and disgusting.”Maroney said. Like many victims who have addressed the judge, Maroney criticized USA Gymnastics and MSU for failing to stop Larry from doing those dirty things.

A question that has been asked over and over is: how could Larry be allowed to assault so many women and girls for more than two decades? Maroney said: “The answer to that question lies in the failure of not one, but three major institutions to stop him- Michigan State University, USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic Committee.”

The world watches as more than 200 women and girls confront Larry at his sentencing hearings.” Little girls don’t stay little forever.”Says one survivor. “They grow into strong women that return to destroy your world.” Kyle was one of them. She finally had the courage to call the police. Her report was very critical for the police to have a warrant to search Larry’s house and that led to Larry’s arrest. Kyle told her parents about the abuse at first but they wouldn’t believe it. They even asked Kyle to apologize to Larry for false accuse. Years later she told her dad she wasn’t lying about Larry.(audio)…..Later Kyle talked to her dad again.Her dad realized he was wrong and trusted the wrong person.In March 2016, Kyle’s father took his own life……… At the sentencing hearing, the victims finally had their statements(audio)…….

Among the girls, Rachel was the first to report the abuse and everything else started because of her report. So the girls at the court mostly didn’t know each other but they all knew Rachel. They knew without her, they wouldn’t be there for their right.(audio)…..This ends our show today. Similar cases might also happen somewhere in the world, showing how much the bad people can do to women and kids.
