Everyone makes mistakes, so are the people in voice-over business. The fact is most of them use the “3-time”rule when recording, which means they usually read the script three times before they start it. As long as you are more familiar with the content of the script, your work will sound more natural and well done. Being nervous and under pressure makes it harder to finish the recording of your voice. The possible solution to killing nervousness is to take a deep breath and review our previous tips to feel easier. The moment you get everything right before the mic., remember not to touch anything around you, as they might make some noise in recording, try to relax and be natural. The “3-time”rule also tells us it would be a bad idea to read the script too many times because over-doing it alarms yourself, and it keeps you from doing your best. So don’t be alarmed.
There are career-killing mistakes to avoid for the right voice-over work, whether you want to get into this business or simply want to read better.
1. thinking of too much what. In fact, “who” is more important than “what”. Try to focus more on whom you are speaking to: Do you read this to the children or managers of a company, or your friends? Imagine you are talking to them face-to-face, I’m sure you will speak differently.
2. Reading fast. Many people think the faster they speak, the more standard their English will be. Try to read and speak at a natural speed, because slowing down with clearer ideas to express is more difficult and important.
3. Being lost in your best. Different people do different things better than others, so is your voice. It might take a long time for people to find their own best style of voice without a training. You can find it after some practice by reading, listening and imitating different contents: TV dramas, documentaries, or maybe news report? Find it and practice more. I’m Frank Mars with Frank Voice Training, and remember to subscribe , thank you for listening.
