Lyse Doucet has more details. The hardest part is just beginning. Sometime this week, there will be a first test of Taliban intentions, a 7-day partial truce, what's called the reduction in violence. If it works, a complex agreement will be signed, including a series of Taliban security guarantees and a phased and conditional pullout of US troops. The US envoy to the talks Zalmay Khalilzad wrote on Twitter that there was a difficult and complicated road ahead. Most difficult of all will be the talks among Afghans expected to begin soon after this first deal is signed.

The reports from Burkina Faso that at least 24 people have been killed during an attack on a church in the North of the country. The country has seen a rise in attacks by Islamic militants.
