介绍: Hello, this is David Austin with the BBC News.

India Supreme Court has refused to suspend a citizenship law that's provoked protests across the country. The legislation enables faster access to citizenship for non-Muslim refugees from three neighboring countries. Judges are considering a number of petitions against the law. From Delhi, here's Anbarasan Ethirajan.

The Indian Home Minister Amit Shah has promised to implement the law despite the unrest. The law has triggered unprecedented protests in the Indian capital Delhi and across the country, with critics saying the law discriminates on the basis of religion. In the meantime, police in Delhi have imposed an emergency order banning large gathering in parts of the city after 12 police officers were injured in a protest on Tuesday. Police say they fired tear gas after thousands of protesters threw stones and set fire to vehicles in some Muslim-dominated areas in the northeast part of the city.
