Magic Tree House - Night of Ninjas 5.4 Captured

The ninjas pulled iron bands off their hands. The bands had spikes like claws on them.
忍者把他们手上的铁套脱了下来，那些套子上有刺，就像爪子一样。

“That’s how they climbed the tree,” Annie whispered to Jack.
“他们就靠那个爬上来的。”安妮低声对杰克说。

The ninjas stared at Jack and Annie with dark, piercing eyes. The rest of their faces were covered by their scarves.
忍者用他们黑色的、有穿透力的眼睛盯着杰克和安妮，他们脸部的其他部分都被头巾遮着。

Jack felt frozen under their stares.
杰克被他们盯得一动也不敢动。

Annie wasn’t frozen, though. She stepped right up to them.
不过安妮可没有一动不动，她径直朝他们走了过去。

“Hi,” she said.
“你好。”她说。

The ninjas didn’t say “hi” back. They didn’t move at all. They were as still as Jack.
忍者没有回敬一句“你好”，他们和杰克一样，根本就没有动。

“We’re trying to help our friend, Morgan,” said Annie.
“我们想要帮助我们的朋友，摩根。”安妮说。

She held up Morgan’s note. The tall ninja took the note from her. He looked at it. Then he gave it to the short ninja. The two ninjas stared at each other. Then they looked back at Jack and Annie.
她举起摩根的留言，高个子忍者拿起留言看了看，然后递给了矮个子忍者。两个人互相对望了一下，然后又朝杰克和安妮看着。

Finally the short ninja nodded once. He put the note into the pocket of his shirt.
最后，那个矮个子忍者点了一下头，他把那张留言放进了上衣的口袋里。

“You can help us?” Annie asked.
“你能帮助我们吗?”安妮问道。

Neither ninja spoke. Jack wished he could see their faces. He couldn’t tell what they were thinking.
两个忍者都没有说话，杰克真希望能看到他们的脸啊，他完全不知道他们在想些什么。

The short ninja tossed the rope ladder back out of the tree house. The tall one pointed down the ladder. Then he pointed at Jack and Annie.
矮个子忍者把绳梯从树屋里给放了下去，高个子指了指下面的梯子，然后又指了指杰克和安妮。

Uh-oh, thought Jack. Were they being captured?
喔!杰克想，他们是不是被逮了?

“Us? Go with you?” said Annie.
“我们?跟你们走?”安妮说。

The ninja nodded.
忍者点了点头。

“Oh boy!” said Annie.
“噢!太好了。”安妮说。

Oh boy? Is she nuts? wondered Jack.
太好了?她是不是疯了?杰克怀疑。

The short ninja darted down the ladder. He went hand over hand. His feet didn’t touch the rungs of the ladder.
矮个子忍者飞快地从梯子上下去了，他一节一节用手下去，脚根本就没有碰那些横档。

The tall one did the same.
高个子忍者也和他一样下去了。

Jack gasped. The ninjas moved very fast. They were like spiders dropping from webs.
杰克倒吸了一口气，忍者动作太快了，他们就像一只蜘蛛从它织的网上滑下去一样。

“Wow!” said Annie.
“哇塞!”安妮说。

“Now’s our chance to leave, ” said Jack. “Quick!” He looked around the tree house again. Where was that Pennsylvania book?
“现在我们逃跑的机会来了。”杰克说，“赶快!”他再次环顾小树屋一周，那本宾夕法尼亚的书到底在哪里?

“Let’s go with them, Jack,” said Annie.
“我们跟他们走，杰克。”安妮说。

“No! This isn’t a game!” Jack said.
“什么?这可不是玩游戏!”杰克说。

“But I think they know something about Morgan!” said Annie.
“可是我认为他们好像知道一些摩根的事!”安妮说。

She started down the ladder.
她开始顺着绳梯爬下去了。

“Come back!” said Jack.
“回来!”杰克说。

But it was too late.
可是太迟了。

Jack sighed. “Why does this always happen?” he asked himself.
杰克叹了口气，“为什么老是发生这种事情?”他问自己。

“Come on, Jack!” came Annie’s voice from below.
“来吧，杰克!”安妮的声音从下面传了上来。

Jack put his notebook and the ninja book into his pack. He pushed his glasses into place. And he started down the ladder. Jack joined Annie and the ninjas on the ground.
杰克把他的笔记本和那本忍者的书放回他的背包，然后推了推眼镜，也顺着绳梯爬了下去。杰克跟着安妮和那两个忍者后面到达了地面。

The sun had fallen behind the hills. The sky was streaked with red and gold.
太阳已经落山了。天空布满了红色和金色的条纹。

The mouse peeked out from Annie’s sweatshirt pouch.
小老鼠从安妮运动服的口袋里伸出脑袋偷偷张望。

“Don’t be scared, Peanut,” Annie whispered. “We’ll take care of you.”
“别害怕，花生。”安妮轻声道，“我们会照顾你的。”

Great, thought Jack. But who is going to take care of us?
真是不错啊，杰克想，可是谁来照顾我们?

The short ninja held Jack’s arm in one hand and Annie’s arm in the other. He led them through the twilight. The tall ninja walked behind them.
矮个子忍者一只手抓住杰克的胳膊，另一只手抓住安妮的胳膊。他引着他们在暮色中穿行。高个子忍者跟在他们身后。

“Where are we going?” Jack asked.
“我们要去哪儿?”杰克问。

The ninjas stopped near the rushing water of the wide stream. The water roared as it raced downhill.
两个忍者在那条宽阔小溪的湍急水流面前停下了，溪水在奔腾而下的同时发出隆隆的吼声。

The short ninja looked at Jack and Annie. He let go of their arms. Then he pushed them toward the stream.
矮个子忍者看着杰克和安妮，他放开他们的手，然后把他们推到了溪边。

“You want us to cross it?” shouted Annie.
“你要我们渡过去?”安妮喊道。

The ninja nodded. Then he and the short ninja stepped into the wild stream. They started wading across.
忍者点了点头，然后高个子忍者就和矮个子忍者一起迈进了宽阔的溪水中，他们开始涉水渡溪了。

“Let’s run back to the tree house!” said Jack.
“我们快点跑回树屋去!”杰克说。

“No, we have to follow them!” said Annie. “For Morgan’s sake!”
“不行，我们得跟着他们!”安妮说，“为了摩根!”

Jack took a deep breath. She was right.
杰克深呼了一口气，她说得没错。

Annie grabbed Jack’s hand. Together they stepped into the water.
安妮抓住了杰克的手，一起跨进水里。

“YIKES!” They both screamed and jumped out.
“我的妈呀!”他们两个同时尖叫着跳上岸来。

It was the coldest water Jack had ever felt! It was colder than ice. It was so cold it felt like fire.
那是杰克碰过的最冷的水了!比冰还要冷，以至于反而感觉就像火在烧一样。

“I can’t go back in,” said Annie, shivering.
“我不能再下去了。”安妮打着冷颤说。

“Me neither, ” said Jack. “I’ll have a heart attack.”
“我也是。”杰克说，“我就要得心脏病了。”

The ninjas looked at Jack and Annie. Then they turned around and came back.
两个忍者看着杰克和安妮，然后转了个身又回来了。

The tall ninja grabbed Jack.
高个子忍者一把抓住了杰克。

“Help!” Jack cried.
“救命!”杰克叫道。

But the ninja lifted Jack high into the air. And put him on his shoulder.
可是那个忍者把杰克高高地举到空中，然后把他放在了自己的肩头上。

The short ninja put Annie on his shoulder.
矮个子忍者也把安妮放到了肩上。

Then the two ninjas stepped into the stream again. The icy wild waters swirled around them. It went up to the short ninjas’s waist.
两个忍者这又重新回到了水中，冰冷刺骨的溪水在他们身边流淌着，一直漫到了那个矮个忍者的腰部。

But the ninjas moved through the stream as calmly as two sailing ships.
可是两个忍者在水里就像两艘舰艇一样，镇定地移动着。
