This is Real story.
Back in high school when I did a bad job at a test, or missed something in class, my teachers would give me a second chance; When I failed the driving test 10 years ago, I paid to take it again. It seems there are always second chances for people to correct what they do the first time. Later I learned there’s never a second chance for people if they miss someone important in their life, or an important job opportunity. And some people don’t deserve it either: those who commit serious crimes. In today’s show, listen to two stories about what a second chance means to the people who want a change in their life. Their stories might sound impossible to happen in many people’s lives, but they are real. In 1997 Clark, a high school student in Houston Texas, had never been in serious trouble until his 16th birthday, he and his friend robbed a bank at a gun point. Before Clark was ready to rob a bank, his family was not in a good situation with money. His parents were always working to support his family and they got a lot of debts. He thought he could save the day and help his own family out of trouble. One day he watched TV and he saw a guy robbing a bank. It seemed so easy to rob a bank. He didn’t think the police would catch him. Clark was arrested 4 weeks later.
He came out and went to University of Houston in 2001 and then learned film-making in New York. 20 years later he still remembered the day he robbed the bank and how the customers there looked. He tried to track down some of the customers and people who worked there back then, to apologize, but it didn’t turn out well. However, there was one man called David who would like to talk to Clark. He accepted Clark’s apology and wanted to help him find his life back on track. So he agreed to sit down and have a conversation with Clark.(Audio 1)
David liked to see Clark’s life turned around at the second chance. Even talking with Clark and accepting his apology means a valuable chance for Clark. He knows how important it is not to make the same mistake again. After their conversation they still contact each other and even become closer as friends. Clark keeps tracking down the people who were at that bank that day and even made a TV documentary. Unfortunately some people couldn’t earn a second chance to be a better person. I once had a neighbor in my hometown. Their son was put in jail for stealing. A few years later he got out of prison and stole his brother’s television. His brother called the police and he was back to jail again. You might think it’s over for him, he wouldn’t do it again. He did it again after being out, and back to jail again.I don’t think he deserves another chance at all.

Brian still tried hard to contact them when they were outside and just ran away from their father. He wanted to be the big brother again, and he believed that their connection would never end.His siblings didn’t know about gay people so it took them a long time to rebuild the relationship again. Then they came to each other as a family.A few years after Brian was kicked out, his youngest brother Michael was born so he never met him.Years later one day Brian received a phone call from Michael and knew he would go to college. Brian bought a ticket to Dallas and met him.He gave Michael all his savings for his college, though not much money. They spent the whole weekend and he found his way of being a big brother again. As he was ready to leave Dallas, Michael said “I love you brother”. It was the most beautiful moment he had ever experienced in his life, and he cried.(Audio 2)
That’s the talk between Brian and his brother Michael. Brian works as a social worker. He tries whenever he can to help people to reach their families, because he knows how important it is to have a good family relationship, even after getting a second chance. You are listening to Real story, I’m Frank X.
