The Fox and the Crane狐狸与鹤

The Fox and the Crane were good friends, but a few days ago they had a big fight.
狐狸和鹤是好朋友，但是几天前他们大吵了一架。

Fox: Mrs. Crane used to be my best friend. But she isn’t anymore. How can I trick her? I want to make her ANGRY.
狐狸:鹤太太曾经是我最好的朋友。但她不再是了。我怎么才能骗到她呢?我想让她生气。

Mr. Fox thinks and thinks.
狐狸先生想了又想。

Fox: Ah ha! I have a great idea! Ha! Ha! Ha! This will be Fun.
狐狸:啊哈!我有一个好主意!哈!哈!哈!这会很有趣的。

Mr. Fox telephones Mrs. Crane.
狐狸先生打电话给鹤太太。

Crane: Hello?
Fox: Hello. This is Mr. Fox. How have you been?
Crane: Very well, thank you. Why are you calling? I’m very busy.
Fox: Come to my house for lunch. I will prepare a delicious dish.
Crane: Really? Why?
Fox: I want to be your friend again. So, please come.
Crane: OK. I will. Where is your house?
Fox: Walk straight down the road. Turn left at the first cherry tree. You will see my house. It has a white fence.
Crane: Okay. What time shall I come?
Fox: Come at twelve o’clock. Don’t be late.
Crane: Don’t worry. I will be on time.
鹤:你好吗?
狐狸:你好。这是狐狸先生。你最近怎么样?
鹤:很好，谢谢。你为什么打电话来?我很忙。
狐狸:来我家吃午饭吧。我会准备一道美味的菜。
鹤:真的吗?为什么?
狐狸:我想再做你的朋友。所以,请一定要来哦。
鹤:好的。我会的。你的房子在哪里?狐狸:沿着这条路一直走。在第一棵樱桃树左转。你会看到我的房子。它有一个白色的篱笆。
鹤:好的。我什么时候来?
狐狸:十二点钟来。不要迟到哟。
鹤:别担心。我会准时的。

Mrs. Crane puts down the telephone. She is very excited.
Crane: I wonder what Mr. Fox is cooking? I am going to skip breakfast.
Mrs. Crane skips breakfast so that she can have a big lunch at Mr. Fox’s house. She finds the house with the white fence.
鹤太太放下电话。她很兴奋。
鹤:我想知道狐狸先生在煮什么?我打算不吃早餐。
鹤太太不吃早餐，这样她就可以在狐狸先生的家里吃一顿丰盛的午餐。她找到了有白色篱笆的房子。

Crane: Look! There is Mr. Fox’s house. I found it. I can smell something delicious.
Mrs. Crane knocks at the door and Mr. Fox opens it.
Fox: Oh, come in, Mrs. Crane.
Crane: Thank you for your invitation.
Fox: Thank you for coming. I prepared a delicious dish for you.
Crane: Yes, I can smell it.
Fox: Please sit down.

鹤:看!这是狐狸先生的房子。我找它了。我闻到了一些好闻的味道。
鹤夫人敲了敲门，狐狸先生打开了门。
狐狸:哦，请进，鹤太太。
谢谢你的邀请。
狐狸:谢谢你来。我为你准备了一道美味的菜。

狐狸:请坐。

Mrs. Crane sits down at the table, but she only sees a wide plat plate. Mrs. Crane has a long and narrow beak, so she can’t eat anything on a plate. She becomes a little worried. Mr. Fox brings in the soup from the kitchen.
Fox: Here you are. Enjoy your soup. It is very delicious.
Crane: Okay. I will.
鹤太太在桌旁坐下，但她只看到一个很宽的盘子。鹤太太的嘴又长又窄，所以她不能吃盘子里的任何东西。她有点担心了。狐狸先生从厨房端来汤。
狐狸:给你。享受你的汤。它非常美味。

Mrs. Crane tries to eat the soup in the dish, but she can only eat very little because of her sharp beak.
Fox: Why aren’t you eating? Isn’t it delicious?
Crane: Yes, it is. But I eat very slowly.
Fox: I didn’t know. Mmmm…
鹤太太试着去吃盘子里的汤，但是由于她的尖嘴，她只能吃很少的东西。
狐狸:你为什么不吃呢?不是很好吃吗?
鹤:是的，它是。但是我吃得很慢。
狐狸:我不知道。嗯……

Mr. Fox finished his soup, but Mrs. Crane ate almost nothing. Mrs. Crane is very hungry right now.
Fox: Why didn’t you finish your soup? You don’t like soup?
Crane: Yes, I like soup. But I am not very hungry today.
Fox: Too bad. The soup was very good. I’m full
Crane: I must go home now. Bye-bye.
Fox: Come again. Next time, I will cook you something more delicious. Bye.
狐狸先生喝完了汤，但是鹤太太几乎什么也没吃。鹤太太现在很饿。
狐狸:你为什么没喝完汤?你不喜欢汤吗?
是的，我喜欢汤。但是我今天不太饿。
狐狸:太糟糕了。汤很好。我吃饱了。
鹤:我现在必须回家了。再见。
狐狸:再来。下次，我会给你做一些更美味的。再见。

Mrs. Crane runs home. She is very hungry. She goes home and drinks a bottle of milk. Mrs. Crane is very angry.
Crane: Mr. Fox tricked me. I am very mad. What shall I do? Hmm… I have a great idea!
鹤太太跑回家。她很饿。她回家喝了一瓶牛奶。鹤太太非常生气。
狐狸先生骗了我。我很生气。我该怎么办?我有个好主意!

The next day, Mrs. Crane telephones Mr. Fox.
Fox: Hello.
Crane: Mr. Fox, this is Mrs. Crane. Thank you for lunch yesterday.
Fox: It was nothing. So why did you call?
Crane: This time, I want to invite you for lunch. I am preparing your favorite dish.
Fox: Really? I know the way to your house. I will come right away.
第二天，鹤太太打电话给狐狸先生。
狐狸:你好。
狐狸先生，这位是鹤太太。谢谢你昨天的午餐。
狐狸:没什么。那你为什么打电话?
这次，我想请你吃午饭。我正在准备你最喜欢的菜。
狐狸:真的吗?我知道去你家的路。我马上就来。

Mr. Fox rushes to Mrs. Crane’s house. He smells fish outside the house.
Fox: I can smell fish, my favorite dish. I’m so hungry.
(Mr. Fox wets his mouth and strokes his stomach.)
狐狸先生冲进鹤太太的房子。他闻到屋外有鱼腥味。
狐狸:我能闻到鱼的味道，这是我最喜欢的菜。我太饿了。
(狐狸先生弄湿了嘴巴，摸了摸肚子。)

Mrs. Crane opens the door.
Crane: Mr. Fox, welcome! You came very quickly. Are you hungry?
Fox: Yes, I am. Can we eat now?
Crane: Of course. I’ll bring in the fish right away.
鹤夫人打开门。
狐狸先生，欢迎你!你来得真快。你饿了吗?
狐狸:是的，我是。我们现在可以吃饭了吗?
鹤:当然可以。我马上把鱼送来。

Mrs. Crane brings in the fish from the kitchen. But the fish is not on a plate. It is inside a long narrow bottle. Mr. Fox looks surprised. His eyes are about to pop out.
Crane: Let’s eat. Mmmm… Delicious, isn’t it, Mr. Fox?
Fox: It looks very good.
Crane: But why aren’t you eating?
Fox: I will.
鹤太太从厨房里把鱼端了进来。但是鱼不在盘子里。它在一个又长又窄的瓶子里。狐狸先生看起来很惊讶。他的眼睛快要跳出来了。
鹤:让我们吃。嗯……很好吃，不是吗，狐狸先生?
狐狸:看起来很不错。
鹤:但是你为什么不吃呢?
狐狸:我会的。

Mr. Fox tries to eat the fish, but he can’t get it out from the long, narrow bottle. Mr. Fox has a short mouth and tongue. He realizes his mistake, and can’t say anything.
狐狸先生试着吃鱼，但是他不能把它从又长又窄的瓶子里拿出来。狐狸先生的嘴和舌头很短。他认识到自己的错误，什么也说不出来了。

Crane: This is the most delicious fish in the world. I will have another. How about you, Mr. Fox?
Fox: No, thank you. I think I have a stomachache.
Crane: That’s too bad.
Fox: I must go home now. Bye.
Crane: Good-bye, Mr. Fox! Come again! Ha, ha, ha…
鹤:这是世界上最美味的鱼。我再来一杯。你呢，狐狸先生?
狐狸:不用了，谢谢。我想我胃痛。
鹤:那太糟糕了。
狐狸:我现在必须回家了。再见。
再见，狐狸先生!再来!哈,哈,哈……

Mr. Fox rushes home in shame. Mrs. Crane sees Mr. Fox running away and keeps on laughing.
狐狸先生羞愧地冲回家。鹤太太看见狐狸先生跑开了，继续大笑。

If you trick others, someday you will be tricked, too.
寓意：如果你欺骗别人，总有一天你也会被骗。
