She walks in beauty, like the night

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

1.Who walks in beauty?
- In 1814, Byron was invited to a party held by Lady Sitwell, where he met Lady Wilmot Horton wearing “a mourning dress of spangled black”.
这首诗的主角并不是拜伦的恋人，而是他在一次宴会上遇见的Wilmot Horton夫人，是拜伦的远方表妹，据说Horton夫人正在服丧，故穿着一身黑裙，在月光下闪耀着点点光芒。
