但丁·加百利·罗塞蒂是英国（实际上本人是英国意大利混血）十九世纪末的画家、诗人、诗歌翻译家。1848年与好友威廉·亨特，约翰·米莱共同创立拉斐尔前派兄弟会。三位年轻画家对当时学院派画风不满，主张绘画应体现丰富生动的细节和明亮的色彩。提到拉斐尔前派兄弟会不得不提的人物是伊丽莎白·西戴尔，多次担任他们重要作品的模特，后来成为了罗塞蒂的妻子（虽然据说罗塞蒂在私生活方面非常堪忧，勾搭过好友的妻子之类的，是一个缪斯很多的天才画家）。BBC曾出过一部时代剧《情迷画色》，主要讲拉斐尔前派兄弟会那些passion in life and art，内容略十八禁，感兴趣的可搜资源。

（在英国的时候常在美术馆看见罗塞蒂的画，对我来说非常有吸引力。他画中的女性往往有火红色的长发和优雅的脖颈，色彩鲜明，非常唯美，私心放几张喜欢的画~）

《荒春》一诗收录在诗集《生命之屋》中，主要收录哀悼诗、爱情诗，主题往往与诗人对时间的思考有关。我们往往觉得春天应该与万物复苏等主题呼应，似乎“时光易逝”“岁月轮回”之类的主题与秋天更契合。但罗塞蒂这首诗中却把春天与时间的转瞬即逝结合起来，前五行描写富有生命的春日景象，六七行话锋一转，直至诗歌末尾，都在表达其对盛衰交替的哀悼。个人觉得诗中出现的许多春日之花意向也体现了罗塞蒂对“生动丰富的细节”的美学追求。
