Before you can communicate your thoughts, feelings, needs, and desires to your spouse, you need some self-awareness. Reading books, taking workshops, and getting counseling are a few ways to learn healthy skills. Money Management Money differences are common problems in marriage. As a young couple you may have fewer financial resources to work with because you are less likely to be established in a career, and have had less time to save money. Learning how to budget and spend money wisely may be a skill that you and your partner can work on together. Parenting Deciding if and when to have children can be a source of conflict for young couples. Once you have a child, parenthood can be a difficult transition, as it requires additional roles and responsibilities, time, energy, and financial resources. The birth of a child is often associated with a decrease in marital satisfaction. In-laws Issues Not only do young couples need to learn how to deal with their individual differences, but with the differences of their respective families. When you marry a person, you marry their family. Your spouse's family has expectations and patterns of relating to each other that have developed over many years.
