从1964年就赢得『Slowhand』外号，人称『吉他之神』的艾力克莱普顿于1999年终于发行了他加入华纳唱片旗下的首张精选集。在七十多分钟的音乐中以电影「落跑新娘」主题曲"Blue Eyes Blue"开场，接下来的「第三类奇蹟」主题曲"Change The World"、"My Father’s Eyes"、"Tears In Heaven"、及三度进榜的不朽情歌"Layla"都是近年来艾力克莱普顿在葛莱美奖中得奖的作品。接下来的几首歌都是八○年代艾力克莱普顿专辑中曾经发行过的单曲，包括保罗纽曼与汤姆克鲁斯主演的「金钱本色」主题曲" It’s In The Way That You Use it"，这些歌曲蓝调风格较明显是他一贯擅长的蓝调摇滚作品。"River Of Tears"选自’98年的「Pilgrim」专辑，而"(I) Get Lost"是精选中另一首新曲，它是布鲁斯威利和蜜雪儿菲佛主演的浪漫喜剧「The Story Of Us」(KISS情人)的电影主题曲，乐风走向现在流行的电子节拍。在亚洲版精选中还加收一首抒情摇滚曲"Wonderful Tonight"的现场演唱版。这张精选是艾力克莱普顿18年来作品的精华，也是收集艾力克莱普顿最超值的选择。

If this were your first exposure to Eric Clapton, a bit of bewilderment would be in order. This is the legendary guitar icon? This is (as his early apostles once proclaimed) God? Ranging from the mid-´80s through the late ´90s, The Clapton Chronicles owes less to the groundbreaking blues-rock of Clapton´s ´60s and ´70s classics than to the polished-to-a-glare pop of Phil Collins, who produced one of the tracks included in this 14-song anthology. His reinterpretation of his greatest recording--the once-gripping, now-placid "Layla"--perhaps best illustrates Clapton at middle-age: Who wants to bask in his darkest period? Not Clapton, who converts his surging, purging charge into a soothing stroll.
