Soul is a healing and thoughtful animated film about Joe Gardner, a New York middle-school music teacher who dreams of becoming a real jazz musician. Just after earning the chance to perform with a famous jazz band, he accidentally falls into a manhole, and his soul arrives in the Great Before, a place where new souls prepare for life on Earth.
Eager to return before the performance, Joe meets Soul 22, an ancient soul who has refused to go to Earth for thousands of years. Joe tries to help 22 find her “spark” so he can use her Earth pass, but they accidentally return to the human world in the wrong bodies: 22 enters Joe’s body, while Joe becomes a cat. Through pizza, street music, conversations, wind, and a falling leaf, 22 begins to feel the beauty of ordinary life. Meanwhile, Joe realizes that life cannot be measured only by success or one dream. Meaning also exists in everyday moments we often ignore.

为了赶回演出现场，乔遇见了几千年来始终拒绝去地球生活的灵魂22号。乔试图帮助22号找到“火花”，以便借用它的地球通行证，却意外与它错位返回人间：22号进入乔的身体，而乔变成了一只猫。通过披萨、街头音乐、人与人的交流、微风和落叶，22号逐渐感受到平凡生活的美好。与此同时，乔也明白，人生不能只用成功或某个梦想来衡量，意义也存在于那些常被忽略的日常瞬间之中。
