介绍: This moment of Pairs Olympic games was even more exciting than ever before when Wu Peng came out second on the rock climbing speed race, the very first men in Chinese history to gain a place in this competition. Watching him jumping on the rocks with confidence and grace, you may be impressed by the charm of it and start to wonder more about this sport.
Rock climbing is a kind of sport that climb upwards on natural or artificial rock walls, and as an extreme sport, rock climbing requires people to continuously complete thrilling movements such as turning, pulling, moving, swing and even jumping on rocks of all kinds heights and angles.
And the origin of rock climbing is closely related to human mountain climbing activities. In the 1950s, rock climbing techniques were significantly improved, and it gradually became a competitive sport. And 1952 was an eventful year for rock climbing, when Italian climbers held their first specialized climbing competition which gave birth to modern rock climbing games.
Since the 1980s, rock climbing was no longer only limited to natural rock walls, but artificial facilities has came into being as well. In 1990, the International Federation of Rock Climbing (IFSC) was established, promoting the globalization of rock climbing.
Rock climbing has received wider attention when entering the 21st century. In 2016, rock climbing was officially listed as a sport at the Summer Olympics for the first time and made its appearance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, revealing a new chapter for rock climbing.
And Wu Peng, who is 22 years old this year, entered the Hunan climbing team about 7 years ago and that's when he began to fly. Through years of practice, his climbing skills were almost perfect. Though Wu Peng lost the first place by only 0.2 seconds in the men's climbing speed final at the Paris Olympics, a silver metal is still a successful breakthrough for all Chinese people.
The potential of Chinese rock climbing is yet to be discovered, so may we hold our breath and hope for the best.
