在《Erotica》专辑中与Madonna合作的制作人有两位，一位是之前与M合写出《Vogue》的House舞曲专家Shep Pettibone，另一位是主要负责专辑中Hip-hop元素的André Betts。《Shame》是M与Shep共同制作的弃曲，与《Thief of Hearts》《Words》一样都是Shep擅长的俱乐部舞曲风，但节奏比这两首歌慢一点。副歌的第一句"It's a shaaaaaaame..."与英国说唱女歌手Monie Love同时期的歌曲《It's a Shame (My Sister)》副歌很相似，因此有人猜测，这就是当年传言Madonna与Monie将要合作的源头。
