【戳爷注释】That lyric was about establishing right off the bat what’s going on. It’s like I got to walk away while you were left. We weren’t going to get engaged but the imagery to me was these two engagement rings and one of the partners being left to deal with both of them while the other goes off.
这句歌词是概括总起句。表达当你离开的时候我就得离开。我们本来不打算订婚的，但对我来说，这两枚订婚戒指的画面是，其中一个要处理这两枚戒指，而另一个选择退出。

【戳爷注释】It’s like your ring finger enjoying that cool breeze. Then “the change in the wind took you down to your knees,” is that same wind that I was enjoying on my ring finger is really crippling you and bringing you down.

【戳爷注释】My last album was called ‘Blue Neighborhood.’ I wrote a little bit about this breakup as it was happening, and as I was going through all of the emotions that led to the breakup. A couple of the songs on that album are about that situation so “I sent it out into the blue”; being ‘Blue Neighborhood.’

【戳爷注释】I took ‘Blue Neighborhood’ on tour and “the people danced to the sound of your heart and the world sang along to it falling apart”; was this super surreal experience of me being out on stage and singing these songs about something so personal and current. It was being sang right back at me with these big smiles and people dancing and stuff and for me it was a really healing experience but it was also super super strange. I think it helped me get through a little bit, but he didn’t have that.

【戳爷注释】I think those three words were really important to me. Each of them serves their own purpose. I sympathize, know that I haven’t just gone and ran off and completely forgotten about you. And I recognize that I’m getting to do all this stuff and it’s probably easier for me than it is for you. And I apologize, I wish that this wasn’t the way things were going down and I’m really sorry. Because at the end of the day It didn’t end in some crazy epic spat. It just fell apart and those are the saddest ones sometimes. It’s an apology. You never want to put anyone through that kind of pain.

【戳爷注释】Again, it’s just about touring. I felt like I had been around the world or universe not once but twice. It was a cute lyric that made me smile when we thought of it.

【戳爷注释】I think in the early stages of a breakup that’s one of the weirdest things. Your go-to person to call is not there anymore or shouldn’t be. While I was off getting to see all these amazing places and having all these crazy experiences I would take out my phone be like, “oh sh*t, no.” Put it back in my pocket.

【戳爷注释】With this last verse I think it will happen. I’m sure that I will bump into him at some point and get to tell him, “I’ve been watching from afar everything he’s been up to and I am super proud of him and I know that he’s doing what makes him happy,” so that’s good.

You gotta start somewhere and I think every relationship, even if it’s not the perfect one that lasts forever, every time you learn so much about yourself and about relationships and about love and you grow.
