Q1: What's love?
A1: It is a mixture of friendship and desire, bounded by the rules of honor and virtue... Love, being a medium between pure friendship and perfect desire, it is warm enough to keep friendship from an ague, but not so furiously hot as to set all on fire.

Q2: Who are wisest, those that marry for love or for convenience?
A2: There’s no degree of wisdom in either, but they are both fools if they marry for one without the other.

Love, without the necessary conveniences of life, will soon wear thread-bare; and conveniences without love is no better than being chained to a post for the sake of a little meat, drink, and clothing.

Much love and moderate conveniency is far better than the most plentiful estate with little or no love.

Q3: Is it proper for women to be learned?
A3: If women were learned, they would be prouder and more unsupportable than before.

Q4: Dancing, is it lawful?
A4: Dancing seems in some sort natural: It's difficult not to leap for joy and the whole body seems almost necessarily to follow the motion of the spirits and blood... this natural way of expelling mirth, which is also a healthful exercise to the body.

Q5: Why is thunder more terrible in the night time?
A5: In the dead of night, noises are rendered more distinct and consequently more terrible by the universal stillness everywhere else.

Q6: Is there, do you think, a large part of the world still left to discover?
A6: Yes.
