答案:DAC
Cairo is known for its overcrowded(拥堵的) roads, irregular(无规律的) driving practices and shaky(不可靠的) old vehicles(车辆,交通工具), but also for its air pollution. In recent months, though, environmental studies indicate(表明) there have been signs of improvement. That’s due in part to the removal(移除,搬走) of many of the capital’s old-fashioned black and white taxis. Most of these dated back to the 1960s and 70s and were in a poor state of repair(修理). After new legislation(法律,法规,立法) demanded their removal from the roads, a low interest loan scheme(计划) was set up with three Egyptian banks so drivers could buy new cars. The government pays about $900 for old ones to be discarded(废弃,遗弃) and advertising on the new vehicles helps cover repayments. The idea has proved popular with customers—they can now travel in air-conditioned comfort and because the new cabs are metered(用仪表测量),they don’t have to argue over fares(费用). Banks and car manufacturers(制造商) are glad for the extra(额外的) business in tough(艰难的) economic times. As for the taxi drivers, most are delighted to be behind the wheel(轮子) of new cars, although there have been a few complaints(抱怨) about switching(转变) from black and white to a plain(相貌平平的) white colour.
