Nam June Paik X Ligyung Collaboration
This section of the exhibition displays Nam June Paik’s works together with Ligyung’s artistic command of light. Hundreds of Paik’s monitors show various videos, images, and colors, while Ligyung uses lasers and beams of light that together create a “space of light” through the mutual harmony of the two artists.
This space is home to several of Paik’s famous works, including Turtle, M200, and TV Chandeliers. Turtle and M200 are works completed not by Paik alone, but with the help of electrical technicians and video editors. This is just one example of how Paik enjoys working together with other artists and experts in different fields, and appreciates the talents they offered and the contributions they made. If Paik had been alive today, he surely would have sought to collaborate with Ligyung and her mastery of light to create even more mysterious and fantastic spaces of art. Ligyung stated that she took part in this collaboration with Paik’s words, “My Jubilee Ist Unverhemmet.” = “Nothing shall hurt my jubilee” On the open sea, Paik’s Turtle swims in a space that is as wide and vast as the universe itself, M200 shows individuals dancing and birds flying, and Chandelier presents romantic imagery through a hanging chandelier whose candlelight moves along with the light. With all of this imagery, audiences again feel guided by the light, leading them somewhere new.
