LCR: Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed most commonly on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world.
李春如：一年一度的圣诞节是为纪念耶稣诞生而设的节日。每年的12月25日，世界各地的人们无论是出于宗教因素还是文化背景，都参与到节日庆祝中。
NR: Christmas Day is a public holiday in many of the world's nations, is celebrated religiously by a majority of Christians, as well as culturally by many non-Christians, and forms an integral part of the holiday season.
倪然：在许多国家，圣诞节被视为公共节日，是冬假的重要组成部分。基督徒也好，非基督教群众也罢，节日面前，快乐——人人平等。
LYL: First, let’s talk about the colours of Christmas. There are several colors which are traditionally associated with Christmas. Apart from green, red and white we also have gold and blue. But why do we have them and what do the colors represent?
李雨龙：首先我们来聊聊关于圣诞的那些颜色。一般来说，圣诞色的组成除了传统的红白绿，还有金色和蓝色。不过这背后有哪些原因呢？这些颜色又代表了什么？让我们一探究竟。
ZWQ: Evergreen plants, like Holly, Ivy and Mistletoe have been used for thousands of years to decorate and brighten up buildings during the long dark winter. Now the most common use of green at Christmas are Christmas Trees.
郑雯琦：长久以来，人们用冬青、常春藤、槲寄生这些常绿植物来点缀房屋，使漫长的冬天不再暗淡。这是圣诞绿的起源。现在，圣诞绿一般用来代指圣诞树。
GW: An early use of red at Christmas were the apples on the paradise tree, according to the Holy Bible. Red is also the color robes which eventually became Santa's uniform!
高薇：根据《圣经》记载，早期的圣诞红是来源于天堂里苹果的颜色。红色其实也是早期宗教长袍的颜色，最后这种红色袍子演变成了圣诞老人的制服。
NR: And gold is the color of the Sun and light - both very important in the dark winter. Both red and gold are the colors of fire that you need to keep you warm. Silver is sometimes used instead of (or with) gold. But gold is a 'warmer' color.
倪然：金色来自光明与太阳——漫漫长冬中给人希望的光与热。红色和金色也都是火焰中可见的颜色。此外，银色有时会被用来代替金色。不过相比而言，金色更“暖和”一些。
LCR: White is often associated with purity and peace in western cultures. And white paper wafers were also sometimes used to decorate paradise trees. The colour blue is used to represent the sky and heaven.
李春如：在西方文化中，白色与纯洁、宁静这两种意象密不可分。人们有时也用白色的纸片装饰圣诞树。而蓝色常用来代指天空和天堂。
LYL: Well I’ve also noticed that sometimes we say ‘Xmas’ instead of ‘Christmas’. Is that correct? Are there any interesting stories behind ‘Xmas’?
李雨龙：哦我还注意到有时候人们会用“Xmas”而不是“Christmas”，这种用法合适吗？为啥有“Xmas”这种说法？
NR: Some people don't think it's correct to call Christmas 'Xmas' as that takes the 'Christ' (Jesus) out of Christmas. But that is not quite right! In the Greek language and alphabet, the letter that looks like an X is the Greek letter chi which is the first letter of the Greek word for Christ, Christos.
倪然：有些人觉得“Xmas”这种说法不对，因为基督耶稣的名字“Christ”在这里没法体现。不过这种观念并非正确——X其实来源于希腊语，这个字母在希腊语中恰恰就是Christ，Christos这两个名字的首字母。
ZWQ: The symbol of a fish is sometimes used by Christians because Jesus had said that he wanted to make his followers 'Fishers of Men'. Sometimes Christians draw only half of the fish and that makes it look like ‘X’.
郑雯琦：耶稣曾说想要让他的追随者们成为“渔夫”，所以在基督徒中，鱼形符号经常被使用。有的时候，基督徒们只简单地画一半鱼形，这样一来看起来也比较像“X”了。
NR: So Xmas can also mean Christmas; but it should also be pronounced 'Christmas' rather than 'ex-mas'!
倪然：所以这两种说法其实是一个意思，不过“Xmas”的发音和“Christmas”也是一致的，不用读成“ex-mas”。
LYL: I see. Recently I’ve come across some fun facts about Christmas online. Check this, do you guys know which company int（是的）ro（它）du（不知道为啥被河蟹）ce（自己去一下括号吧听众朋友们）d the red and white costume of Santa? The answer is-------------- Coca-Cola.
李雨龙：原来是这样~最近我在网上看到了一些关于圣诞节的小知识，还蛮有趣的。你们知不知道圣诞老人那件红白两色的衣服最早是由哪个公司提出的？答案是——可口可乐公司！！！
GW: And according to data analyzed from Facebook posts, two weeks before Christmas is one of the two most popular times for couples to break up. However, Christmas Day is the least favorite day for breakups.
高薇：Facebook的调查数据显示，圣诞节前的两周是每年两度的分手高峰期之一。不过据观察，大家基本上都不愿意在圣诞节当天提分手，毕竟是美好的节日嘛~
ZWQ: Another interesting note is that, Japanese people traditionally eat at KFC for Christmas dinner, thanks to a successful marketing campaign 40 years ago. KFC is so popular in Japan that customers must place their Christmas orders 2 months in advance.
郑雯琦：还有个有趣的现象——日本人的圣诞传统是吃肯德基！40年前一次成功的宣传活动开启了这个“圣诞KFC节”热潮。由于太火爆，生活在日本的人们通常要提前两周预定才能吃到呢~
LCR: The famous song All I Want for Christmas Is You is a Christmas song performed by American singer Mariah Carey. It was first released in 1994 and was so successful that It has become established as a Christmas standard and continues to surge in popularity each holiday season.
