Since she was a child, Christine Daaé, a beautiful girl with blonde hair and blue eyes, traveled around Europe with her father, who was a great musician.
克里斯汀·戴耶是一个金发碧眼的美丽少女，她从小就跟随身为大音乐家的父亲周游欧洲。

Christine loved to sing.
克里斯汀很爱唱歌。

Her father used to tell her many stories about the “Angel of Music” - the personification of musical inspiration. Christine loved her father’s stories which inspired her to continue to practice singing.
父亲给她讲过很多关于“音乐天使（音乐灵感的化身）”的故事，她十分爱听。这些故事激励着她在歌唱道路上前行。

She truly sang beautifully.
她的歌声宛若天籁。

When they arrived to Paris, Christine met a young boy called Raoul. Since they both loved music they became great friends. Christine like Raoul very much, and Raoul felt the very same way about Christine.
到了巴黎后，克里斯汀遇见了一个叫劳尔小男孩，他们因为共同爱好音乐成为了好朋友。克里斯汀和劳尔彼此爱慕。

But her father had to continue his travels around Europe, so Christine had to say goodbye to her dear friend Raoul and resume her journey.
但是，父亲还要继续他的欧洲之旅。克里斯汀只好告别了她亲爱的朋友劳尔，继续旅行。

After many years had passed, Christine came back to Paris. She had grown into a beautiful woman with a lovely voice and she was given a position in the chorus at the Paris Opera House which is called the Palais Garnier.
多年之后，克里斯汀重访巴黎，这时的她已经出落得亭亭玉立，声音也美妙动听。她在巴黎歌剧院（又名“加尼尔宫”）的合唱团谋得了一份工作。

She immediately made an impact with the company because of her stunning looks and heavenly voice. Soon afterward, she began to hear a hauntingly handsome voice that would give her advice on her singing.
她动人的外表和天籁般的嗓音在歌剧院引起了巨大的反响。不久之后，她开始不断地听到一个充满磁性的声音指导她歌唱的技巧。

“Are you the Angel of Music?” Christine asked. “I am!” the voice replied, “And I will teach you a little bit of heaven’s music!”

The voice, belonged not to an angel, but Erik, a strange musical genius who had forever been living in the Opera and was also called the “Phantom of the Opera” by the opera patrons.

The days passed and Christine became more and more enchanted by the mysterious voice that so knowingly taught her to sing better and better.

One special night, Christine made her debut on the Opera’s stage.
在一个特别的夜晚，克里斯汀完成了她歌舞剧院的首演。

Christine triumphed at the gala and garnered tremendous applause from the audience.
克里斯汀的盛大演出大获成功，潮水般的掌声向她涌来。

Her old childhood friend Raoul was also there in the audience at the Opera and recalled his love for her.
她青梅竹马的朋友劳尔也欣赏了她的表演，他重燃了沉睡的爱情。

Raoul went to meet Christine afterward and they talked for a long time. They were still very fond of each other!
劳尔随后去见了克里斯汀，一诉衷肠。他们对彼此的感情没有变！

Hidden, and watching everything was Erik.
而这一切，都被隐藏在黑暗中的埃里克看在眼里。

Sometime after the gala, the Pairs Opera performed “Faust”. But against Erik’s will, the lead was to be played by the prima donna Carlotta, and not by Christine.
演出结束后，巴黎歌剧院推出了《浮士德》。但让埃里克很气愤的是，领衔的是首席女歌手卡洛塔，而不是克里斯汀。

Angry with the manager’s decision, the Phantom haunted Carlotta who got scared and lost her voice. He then cut the rope of the grand chandelier which plummeted into the audience.
经理的安排让埃里克气愤不已，因此这个“幽灵”就跑去“拜访”了一下卡洛塔，结果把她吓得失了声。然后，他割断了大吊灯的绳子，吊灯瞬间砸向台下的观众。

In the middle of the confusion, a masked Erik kidnapped Christine and brought her to his cellars beneath the Opera stage where he lived, and there, he revealed his true identity to her. The voice of the man behind the mask was charming and Christine began to find herself attracted to her abductor.
在混乱中，戴面具的埃里克掠走了克里斯汀，把她带到他在歌剧院地下的住所。在那里，他向她吐露了自己的真实身份。面具下这个男人的声线很迷人，克里斯汀发现自己对这个绑架犯有点动心。

Curious, Christine gently approached Erik, and unmasked him. But to her horror, his face was the face of a monster. Seeing how scared Christine was of him, Erik ran away from her in pain and sadness.
好奇心驱使克里斯汀轻轻地走近埃里克，摘下了他的面具。然而面具下一张怪物般的脸吓坏了克里斯汀。看到自己如此让克里斯汀恐惧，埃里克走开了，内心满是痛苦和悲伤。

The following night during another production of “Faust”, suddenly a big cloud of smoke appeared and the lights went out. Erik jumped onto the stage and again, took Christine with him!
第二天晚上，另一场《浮士德》正在上演，突然间剧院里大雾弥漫，灯也灭了，埃里克趁机跳上舞台，再次带走了克里斯汀。

“You shall marry me, Christine!” Erik said, “Or I will destroy the entire Opera house and bring it down in ruin.”
“你要嫁给我，克里斯汀！”埃里克说道，“否则我会将整个剧院化为灰烬！”

Christine, at first, refused but when she remembered Raoul was also in the audience, she agreed to marry Erik.
一开始，克里斯汀拒绝了他，但是一想到劳尔也身处危险之中，她同意了埃里克的要求。

As Erik lifted his mask to kiss her on her forehead, he was surprised to receive a kiss from Christine in return.
当埃里克摘下面具亲吻克里斯蒂娜额头的时候，他吃惊地发现，她回吻了他。

“I have never received a kiss!” he told her, “Not even from my own mother.” Overcome by emotion, he told Christine, “Go, go, my angel, and marry Raoul. I know you love him!”
“从来没有人亲吻过我！我妈妈都没有！”埃里克一时情绪激动，他说，“你走吧，我的天使，去和劳尔结婚吧。我知道你爱的是他！”

Christine ran away to her beloved Raoul whom she married a short time after.

She thought of the Phantom many times over the years, but he was never to be seen again, although some people say he still wanders the halls of the Paris Opera House.
