Suguru Osako, one of the greatest marathon runners in Asian history. Born in Tokyo, Japan, he has rewritten the history of long-distance running by breaking the Japanese national marathon record three times and setting the Asian record at 2:04:55.
From his early glory at Waseda University and outstanding performances in the Hakone Ekiden, Osako made a brave and controversial choice to join the Nike Oregon Project instead of a traditional corporate team. Despite public doubt and difficult lows, he persisted through tough training, even in high-altitude camps in Kenya. At 34, he achieved his historic third record, proving that resilience and self-belief can overcome all challenges.
Today, at 35, he continues to pursue excellence as a Li-Ning athlete, preparing for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. His story inspires courage to follow one’s path and persist against pressure. We look forward to his future achievements and hope Chinese marathon will keep rising to new heights.
