And he jumped out of bed and looked out through the window
然后他跳下床 从窗户向外望去

He saw a most wonderful sight
他看见一幕极妙的景象

Thought a little hole in the wall, the children had crept back into the garden,and were sitting on the branches of the trees
小孩儿们穿过墙上一个小洞爬进了花园里 坐在树枝上

And every tree that he could see, there was a little child
他目所能及的每一棵树上 都有一个小孩儿

The trees were so glad that they...They covered themselves with blossoms
那些树都感到十分欢喜 欢喜地绽放出花儿来

And were waving their arms gently above the children's heads
它们在小孩儿们的头顶 温柔地挥动着枝丫

And the birds were twittering and singing above them with delight
鸟儿们在那儿欢快地盘旋与歌唱

And the flowers were looking up through the grass and laughing
草丛间的花儿也在一同欢笑

And the Giant's heart melted as he looked out
当巨人看见这一幕时 它的心几乎融化了

「How selfish I have been! 」
he said
我曾是那样的自私！他说

「Now I know why the Spring would not come here. 」
如今我终于明白 春天为何从不来临我的花园

「I will put that poor little boy on the top of the tree, and then I will knock down the wall, and my garden shall be the children's playground for ever and ever.」

我会将那个小男孩抱上树顶 然后推翻这堵墙
我的花园应当永远成为小孩儿们玩耍的乐园

He was really very sorry for what he had done.
他对自己曾经做过的事感到很抱歉

So he crept downstairs and opened the front door quite softly, and went out into the garden.
于是他蹑手蹑脚地走下楼 轻轻地打开前门 走进了花园

But the little boy did not run, for his eyes were so full of tears that he did not see the Giant coming.
然而那个小男孩儿并没有逃走 他眼里蓄满了泪水 并未看到巨人走近

And the Giant stole up behind him and took him gently in his hand, and put him up into the tree.
巨人悄悄走到他的身后 温柔地将他提了起来 放在了树顶

And the tree broke at once into blossom, and the birds came and sang on it
那棵树立刻开出了花朵儿 鸟儿也飞过来歌唱

And the little boy stretched out his two arms and flung them round the Giant's neck, and kissed him.
小男孩儿伸出两只小小的胳膊 环住巨人的脖子 落下一个轻吻

Years went over,and the giant grew very old and very feeble
年复一年 巨人逐渐变得衰老而虚弱

He couldn't play about any more, so he sat in a huge armchair
他不能在跟小孩儿一同玩耍 只能坐在他那张巨大的躺椅上

and watched the children at their games and admired his garden
远远看着小孩儿们一边嬉戏 一边欣赏他的花园

「I have many beautiful flowers,」he said
我拥有过许多美丽的花朵 他说

「But the children are the most beautiful flowers of all.」
但这些孩子 是所有花朵之中最美丽的

The giant hastened across the grass and came near to the child
巨人迈开步子穿过草地 急匆匆走向孩子们

When he came quite close,his face grew red with anger
当他走近时 他的面庞因愤怒而涨得通红

And he said：「Who hath dared to wound thee?」
他说 是谁胆敢伤害你？

For on the palms of the child's hands,were the prints of two nails
因为他看见在那孩子的手掌心 有两个指甲印儿

And the prints of two nails were on his little feet
而他一双小小的脚上 也有同样的伤痕

「Who hath dared to wound thee?」cried the giant
是谁胆敢伤害你？他又喊道

「Tell me, that I may take my big sword and slay him.」
告诉我 我将用我巨大的宝剑杀了他

「Nay,」answered the child
没有人伤害我 那孩子说

「But these are the wounds of love.」
这是爱的伤痕
