Sportsmanship means the right spirit for people who are taking part in any sport or playing any game. Everybody knows that a real sportsman would never dream of cheating in a game. He always plays fair and follows the rules of the game. He takes the game seriously. He is keen to win, plays with all his energy to beat his opponent, and expects his opponents to be as serious as he is. He will play a losing game with dignity. An unsportsmanlike player will often lose his temper when he is losing, like a spoilt child. The true sportsman keeps in good humor even when he is defeated. The final test of a real sportsman is whether he can take defeat well. If he is defeated and congratulates the winner, he has indeed the true sporting spirit
运动员精神是相对于那些参加各种级别的运动会，并尽力参加每一场比赛的用动员而言的。所有人都知道真正的运动员从不奢望在赛场上靠作弊取胜。他总是行为正直，遵守比赛规则，并且认真地进行比赛，他渴望取胜，全身心地投入以击败对手。同时，他又期待对手像他一样严肃地对待比赛。即使他对比赛没有信心但他还是带着尊严参赛一个不称职的运动员在比赛失败时会大发脾气，像宠坏的孩子似的。而真正的运动员即使被击败了，还照样保持幽默的态度。检验一个运动员的真正标准是他对待失败的态度。假如他被击败时，仍真诚地向获胜者表示祝贺，那他就完全具备了成为一个真正的运动员的品质了。
