A multi-hyphenate artist, Ruby McKinnon creates melancholic folk music with a bedroom pop heart under the moniker Flower Face. Taking inspiration from her own vertiginous life experiences, alongside such varied sources as Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events, Jesus Christ Superstar, the oeuvre of Mads Mikkelsen and her dog Ziggy, Flower Face’s musical testimonials recall the jagged emotion of Bright Eyes while conjuring the ethereal ecstasy of a fresh wound.
Speaking about "If I Beg You", she shares, "this song isn’t meant to be vengeful, but maybe it comes out that way. It’s the last song I wrote for this record, just a few weeks before we went into the studio. I knew all along that there was one song left in me, just waiting, and it came out right in time. It opens with this really sad, tragic kind of intro that self-destructs both lyrically and sonically. I wanted it to feel like the music was falling apart with me, and then suddenly it’s reborn in this massive and cathartic way. It’s the realization that you’re human and whole and powerful despite having begged for someone to love you, having given yourself away in so many ways."
